Message from the Head of the Senior School

Dear Senior School Parents & Students:

It is my sincere pleasure to welcome you and your family to our Senior School community as West Point Grey Academy enters its 16th year. The 2010-11 school year saw us again enjoy so many truly outstanding results and memories and we offer our wholehearted congratulations to our staff, parents and students. As always, the school has been a very busy place during the summer months. Cleaning and painting and replacing and upgrading should all be evident to our students, along with a full refresh of the cafeteria (staff, equipment and menu!), a new roof on the junior school and a gymnasium which looks nothing like it did last June. We look forward to many school events and activities in the months ahead; the Welcome Back celebration and Terry Fox Run Friday, September 16 is shaping up to be a spectacular and fun event and we hope to see you there.

Wednesday, September 7 is officially our first full day of classes. Students are to arrive by 8:15am in full ceremonial uniform – white button-down shirt, WPGA crested tie, WGPA blazer, black oxford-style dress shoes and WPGA grey pants (boys) or skirt (girls). Students (and/or parents) may login to the school portal to find their Advisory and update household information as needed; click on Student & Household Information. Complete Advisory lists will also be posted in the front lobby for the first day of school.

The Senior School Parent Information evening has been set for Wednesday, September 21 @ 5:45pm to ~ 8:00pm. You are invited to join us in the Senior School cafeteria for a brief overview of this year’s programs and to then hear from each of your child’s teachers. Your child will have received a course syllabus from each of his/her teachers; should you be unable to join us on September 21, please peruse these syllabi for more details. Prior to September 21 your child will bring home an individual copy of his/her schedule, uniquely created for you to follow during this Parent Information evening. Please note that it is essential that you bring this schedule with you in order to ensure that you hear from all of your child’s teachers. Questions can be directed to your child’s Advisor or Mrs. Mimi Jones, Vice Principal, Academics, mjones@wpga.ca.

Once again, a new school year is underway and a feeling of anticipation and positive energy clearly exists. We have a wonderful array of curricular programs in place, a multitude of co-curricular activities throughout the year, a dynamic staff, a very involved parent and student body and an opportunity to create another memorable and successful school year. On behalf of the staff of West Point Grey Academy I extend best wishes to both you and your child for a most exciting and rewarding 2011-2012 school year.
