Killer Digs and Blocks: Girls Volleyball Action

From a Team Canada training camp to nail-biting tournament action, our girls volleyball team had an exciting month!

What a fantastic start to the varsity girls volleyball season! On September 13 and 14, the girls had the incredible opportunity to train with coaches (and former Team Canada players) Joanne Ross and Carla Bradstock. In the camp, team members grew as athletes and developed their individual and team skills.

The season then kicked off with home games September 17 and 19. The Wolves fought hard against St. Pat’s and Notre Dame, and although they didn’t emerge victorious, the girls showed they have the will—and skills—to soon beat these teams.

On September 21 and 22, WPGA competed in UBC’s senior girls volleyball tournament. After placing 2nd in Friday's pool play, the team faced Kelly Rhode Secondary School (Prince George) in Saturday's playoffs. In an impressive comeback, the girls overcame a 22-11 deficit to win 29-27 in the first set, but Kelly Rhode ultimately snagged a tight third-set win. Down but not out, the Wolves rallied and dominated Kitsilano Secondary School, taking the match in two sets.

Congratulatulations to all players on their efforts and commitment this intense month of play. Each player brings remarkable skill and spark: Shesley C.-H. has taken on the role as starting setter; captains Megan C. and Heather M. have showed leadership (along with multiple kills and killer digs); and Jacqueline W., Rebecca P., Bailey B., Isabelle R. and Ally L. have boosted the team's performance with great serving runs and consistent play. Kudos to Elizabeth T. on amazing blocks and kills, especially against Kitsilano Secondary, and to Emily E. and Linda X. on outstanding defensive plays and movement.

We can't wait to see what the rest of the season brings. Game on!
