Sarah fills us in on last week's Improv Games, in which our teams delivered hilarious skits before packed houses (and despite jittery nerves!).

On January 15 and 16, WPGA’s two improv teams participated at the Canadian Improv Games at Waterfront Theatre on Granville Island. We had been practising for this event since the beginning of the year, so needless to say, we were excited to finally take the stage!

The team Room for Improv’ment performed the first night to a packed house. There were four events: theme, character, story, and open. We were all a bit anxious, especially as it was the first time some of us had performed in public, but fortunately the lights on stage were so bright that we could not see the audience! The four other competing teams were all really supportive, which also helped to quell our nerves. It was an amazing evening, and we captured 3rd place overall.

WPGA's other improv team, The Improvonauts, performed the following night before an energetic audience. It was an exhilarating night—audience participation was at an all-time high, and our students, half of whom had never been on stage before, were on fire. Everyone put on a great show, overcoming nerves to perform some extremely funny scenes, and we enjoyed watching them from an audience member's perspective.

In all, we loved the thrill of being on stage and felt we succeeded at this tournament. Thank you to our coach, Ms. Izdebski, and to everyone who came out to show their support. We really felt the WPGA spirit!
