Andrew updates us on the senior service trip to Oppenheimer Park, where students and staff provided lunch and clothing to grateful recipients.

At 7am on February 5, more than 40 seniors students and staff formed an assembly line in the cafeteria to make 300 sandwiches for those living in the Downtown East Side. We then bagged the sandwiches with fruit, granola and chocolate bars before organizing the clothing and shoes we had collected the previous week.
After lunch, six students and four staff members headed to Oppenheimer Park to distribute the food and clothes. Within minutes of setting up, neat lines of people formed behind our tables. The lunches went really quickly, and everyone thanked us and said how perfect it was to have a sandwich and hot chocolate on such a cold day.
This was an eye-opening reminder of how some people in our city live. We plan to make at least one more trip to Oppenheimer Park this year, and our service council looks forward to making the Oppenheimer initiative an annual event.
Since 1996, West Point Grey Academy has gratefully resided on the Jericho Lands, the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam Indian Band), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) Nation and sə̓lílwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nation. Honoured to learn and play on these beautiful lands, we endeavour to be a leader in Indigenous education. In creating shared understanding and opportunities, we hope to help foster a more equitable society for all.
