Attendance Procedures & Vacation Policy

ATTENDANCE PROCEDURES

At WPGA, consistent attendance and participation in school activities are critical for academic and social development. The Ministry of Education also mandates that we have a note on file for each student’s absence throughout the school year.

STUDENT ABSENCE FORM

For JK-12 students who will be absent from school, arriving late or leaving early, parents must submit the Student Absence Form (WolfNet > Resources) by 8am.

If your child is exhibiting symptoms of illness they are required to stay at home until fever/gastrointestinal symptoms have resolved. For extended absences (three days or more), please contact the homeroom/advisory teacher in addition to completing the form.

ARRIVAL SLIPS

Students who arrive late are required to check in at reception upon arrival. Senior school students must obtain a late slip at reception.

RECURRING ABSENCES

Junior school students who have recurring extracurricular commitments that require them to regularly miss school or leave early must submit the Recurring Absence Form (WolfNet > Resources > Student Absence) to receive permission from the Head of Junior School. Senior school students must speak to Cathy White, Vice Principal of Student Life.

VACATION POLICY
WPGA has generous holiday breaks built into the school year, and we ask that families schedule vacations within these timelines. Extended holidays are disruptive to learning and stressful for students, and teachers are not expected to provide make-up tests or learning materials for a student who is absent because of the holiday. Families who wish to take an extended absence must request permission from the Head of Junior or Senior School in advance.

Since 1996, West Point Grey Academy has gratefully resided on the Jericho Lands, the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam Indian Band), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) Nation and sə̓lílwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nation. Honoured to learn and play on these beautiful lands, we endeavour to be a leader in Indigenous education. In creating shared understanding and opportunities, we hope to help foster a more equitable society for all.
