West Point Grey Academy is a community of children and adults whose common goals include the pursuit of personal excellence in academics, the fine and performing arts, athletics and service. Achievement of these goals depends on each individual contributing to the collective experience of the community. Each community member must commit to a standard of behaviour that fosters consideration, trust, and mutual respect.
The Student Code of Conduct outlines expectations of student members of West Point Grey Academy and includes the school’s personal safety and security, unacceptable behaviours, harassment, guidance, discipline, and suspension and expulsion policies. Junior school students receive an agenda in September that includes the Code of Conduct. Families must review the Code of Conduct, and students must sign their agenda to acknowledge their commitment to respecting the rules and expectations outlined in the Code of Conduct.
As active partners in their child’s learning journey and valued ambassadors of West Point Grey Academy, parents are fundamental to creating a dynamic and inclusive learning environment for the benefit of all students and families. The WPGA Parent Charter outlines the standards of behaviour, engagement and communication required of our parent community. The Charter aligns with our core values and the values in action as outlined in our Student Code of Conduct, and ensures all members of our school community feel welcomed, safe and supported.
Parents are expected to express any concerns in a constructive manner, to assume positive intent by the school, and to support the decisions of the school and teacher relating to the learning and behaviour guidance of their children. Although parents may not agree with every decision or process, we strive to achieve a mutually agreeable outcome.
Since 1996, West Point Grey Academy has gratefully resided on the Jericho Lands, the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam Indian Band), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) Nation and sə̓lílwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nation. Honoured to learn and play on these beautiful lands, we endeavour to be a leader in Indigenous education. In creating shared understanding and opportunities, we hope to help foster a more equitable society for all.
