| Current Position Title: Senior School Mandarin Teacher

Looking back, what’s a moment at WPGA that has stayed with you — one that shaped who you are today?

I think it comes down to the community at WPGA. I’m surrounded by supportive colleagues, and wonderful students and parents.

What does the WPGA community mean to you and why?

I love working here. Having created the Mandarin program in the Senior School, it’s very rewarding to have watched it develop and meaningful to be able to share my language and culture with students. Having coached soccer here for over 20 years, only retiring a few years ago from coaching, it’s been gratifying to see the program grow from its humble beginnings to championship wins.

How have you seen WPGA grow or change over the years—and what has remained the same?

Well, the Mandarin program has grown and so has the soccer program—two areas I am passionate about! For our academic programs, we’ve really diversified over the years, meeting the needs of different learners and learning styles. Our reputation has grown enormously, too, owing to a whole staff effort of continually working to improve, year after year.
Other changes include the facilities, which have obviously improved since the early days. In fact, our Dining Hall used to be open air—where students would also play field hockey!

What’s one lesson or value from WPGA that you carry into your life beyond school?

The biggest lesson is that of care. Not only do we care for students academically but also emotionally and socially. That extends to staff, too. So, I feel a strong obligation to care about others the way we are cared for here.

As we celebrate 30 years, what’s your hope or vision for the next 30?

I hope we can build our own facilities in the future—the school of our dreams, but as far as people go, we are in a great place.
