Looking back, what’s an experience at WPGA that has stayed with you—one that shaped who you are today?
There have been many. In fact, it’s one of the reasons I am still here. Whether it was winning our first soccer banner, surviving a -25°C night in Garibaldi under a tarp, or exporting a term-end film during an assembly, the memories are endless. But really, it’s the moments within project work that truly define the WPGA experience: the late-night shoots, early morning training sessions, and those last-minute editing marathons. These are the moments that truly stay with you.
What does the WPGA community mean to you and why?
I have spent 20 years of my life in these halls. It has shaped my understanding of education, but most importantly, it has given me some truly memorable and meaningful experiences.
How have you seen WPGA grow or change over the years—and what has remained the same?
In the beginning, we were scrappy and hungry to create something positive and lasting. Staff and students alike were actively building a culture from the ground up. It was an exciting time; there was a true sense of ownership and the unique ability to build the kind of school where we wanted to work and the kind of community where parents wanted to send their children. Today, we are more polished and established, but I believe the best parts of our culture still stem from those early days. You can still see that original spirit in our clubs, on trips, and within our athletic teams, arts programs, and theatre productions. It’s in these spaces where staff and students continue to work together to create something bigger than themselves.
What’s one lesson or value from WPGA that you carry into your life beyond school?
Time is a precious commodity. I’ve learned that getting the best out of any experience encourages a deep understanding of the value of time.
As we celebrate 30 years, what’s your hope or vision for the next 30?
Ultimately, the people define this place. I hope we continue to honour our fundamental values while continuing to innovate in our changing world.
